if you receive a message on your phone explaining that an error has been made and that you received a message containing a code from another person allowing them to connect to whatsapp,

the attacking person with your number sent a verification code for logging into your whatsapp account, they need a six digit authentication code for entering into whatsapp messenger, they calls you with another number and asks for the verification code. 

whatsapp tip: as mentioned in the terms and conditions by the whatsapp " never disclose this code to anyone.

attackers have used this advantage to access victim whatsapp account.

all they need to know is the phone number of their potential victim. by registering on the application with this number that does not belong to them, they needs the access code they will send a message like "hey, I accidentally sent a whatsapp verification code to your phone. con you send it to me?"

if the users responds to the message and sends his access code to the attacker, they got all the things needed to access your whatsapp they can do whatever "BASICALLY its an Identity theft" 

so be careful while responding for messages that came from unknown persons and do not share your access code to anyone.
